Introducing the SeniorPath Initiative: Keeping Walkways Safe for North Devon's Seniors
At Deepwell Jet Wash, we know how important it is to have clean and safe walkways—especially for our senior community. Over time, outdoor surfaces like paths and stairs can gather algae, moss, and grime, making them dangerously slippery, especially in damp or frosty weather. For older adults, who may already find balance and mobility a challenge, these hazards can lead to serious falls, injuries, and even a loss of independence.
Why This Matters
Falls are a big concern for seniors in the UK. Between 2017 and 2018, around 220,160 people aged 65 and over ended up in the hospital because of a fall. Of those, 146,665 (66.6%) were aged 70 or older.
What's more, the NHS in England spends about £435 million every year on dealing with fall hazards in the home. (gov.uk)
A third of people over 65—and half of those over 80—fall at least once a year. Falls are the leading cause of serious injury-related deaths in older adults and cost the NHS over £2 billion a year and more than 4 million hospital bed days. (ukhsa.blog.gov.uk)
What is the SeniorPath Initiative?
To help tackle this issue, we’ve launched the SeniorPath Initiative—a service dedicated to keeping seniors in North Devon safe and confident when walking around their homes. Here’s how we help:

Regular Jet Washing – We thoroughly clean walkways, including paths, stairs, and ramps, to remove slippery substances like algae, moss, and grime.

Safety Assessments – Our team looks out for potential hazards and gives you tips on how to keep walkways safer in the long run.
